LET ME INTRODUCE MYSELF!
I am April Renee! I help women build and grow businesses with brand strategy, web design, and marketing execution. With 4+ years of entrepreneurship and branding/marketing experience, I have found that most people have the most difficult time marketing consistently because they have yet to establish their brands! The BUILD-A-BRAND Werkshop is the exact same framework that I use for my new clients BEFORE, we develop and design websites, logos, or any marketing strategy.
WHY BRAND STRATEGY?
I stumbled across brand strategy honestly. I knew I wanted to incorporate it in my business but was still doing my due diligence studying, developing my process, and so on. Here I am about 3 weeks into my studies and I get a referral client for a logo. Sweet girl, just inherited a business from her dad, and she wanted to rebrand it.
I do the norm, discovery call, invoice deposit, and get to work. But then I look up and I’m 6 weeks in this project (it normally would take me 2 weeks to complete a logo), 5 totally different logo variations had been designed, and the client still wasn’t satisfied.
I kept asking myself what was I doing wrong. My mind kept going over our previous conversations and 2 things stood out to me.
During our discovery call every time I would ask her what did she have in mind or what was she looking for she would say “I don’t know what I want…”
She mentioned that she had worked with 3 different designers and they all stopped responding to her. (They probably didn’t know about brand strategy work. Most designers don’t and they probably got frustrated as I was inclined to be as well. )
Then BOOM, it hit me. This is exactly why brand strategy is important. I couldn’t blame her for being indecisive, I blamed myself. If I had taken her through a brand strategy process we would both be on the same page about what she wanted and what her business needed. But instead, we were leading each other with blindfolds on.
After I realized what went wrong in this transaction, I refunded her deposit back and apologized for not being able to solve her logo problem. But I promised myself I would never take any graphic or web design projects (or any projects for that matter), without doing brand strategy first.
I immediately went to work on a brand strategy process that has shown up to be successful! I have had the pleasure of walking through the branding process with an array of companies and at the end of the process I most commonly hear “I can now better articulate what my business/brand actually is/does.” or “I can now define, market to, and attract my ideal client..”
